It is with deep sadness that his family announces the death of Luc François Larochelle, beloved son of Huguette Plourde of Saint-Léonard and Marcel Larochelle of Montreal.  He passed away August 27, 2019 at the Oromocto Public Hospital at the age of 47.

He is survived by his mother, father, daughters, Cloë-Noëlle Larochelle of Rosemère, Que., and Soleille Larochelle of Oromocto, NB, his sister, Josée Larochelle of Rosemère, Qc. 

Luc Larochelle was born in 1972 in Sorel, Quebec, child of Huguette Plourde and Marcel Larochelle. In 1979, he moved to Saint-Leonard, New Brunswick with his mother and sister Josée. In 1989, he joined the Armed Forces as a Reservist in Grand Falls. In 1991, after graduating from the PTA High School in Grand Falls, he continued his studies to receive the required military qualifications at Canadian Armed Forces Base in Gagetown, Camp Wainwright, Alberta and the Grand Falls Armory.

In 1995, he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces and was posted to the Petawawa, Ontario, military base with the 1st Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment (2RCR).

Subsequently, Sergeant Larochelle took part in the following missions:

1- 1997, he participated in the help given during the flood of the Red River in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

2- 1998 under a NATO mandate (SFOR) he was part of a convoy for (Bosnia) the former Yugoslavia, located in the village of Drvar.

3- 1999 under the mandate of NATO he lived the conflict of Kosovo, located in the village of Magura

4- 2003 he was deployed to Camp Julien in Kabul, Afghanistan.

During Operation Athena ROTO 0 (Zero Rotation), Luc Larochelle was the commander of the LAV 111 (Light Armored Vehicle).

He was part of the Rapid Reaction Force Department that was called when his friend, Corporal Jamie Murphy, made the ultimate sacrifice.

On Wednesday, October 26, 2005, he received the STAR OF CAMPAIGN, for having participated in Operation ATHENA Zero Rotation in Afghanistan.

In August 2004, Sergeant Larochelle arrived at Canadian Forces Base Gagetown at the Unit of the Land Forces Atlantic Area Training Center (CISAFT).

He spent 3 years teaching recruits through military courses and was also employed as an ammunition supervisor.

In September 2007, he was sent to the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment at Canadian Forces Base Gagetown. He participated in various exercises in Texas and Hawaii, USA. He was employed as Section Commander, Light Armored Vehicles Sergeant and Platoon Warrant Officer.

In September 2010, he returned to the Land Forces Atlantic Area Training Center (CISAFT) to train the military again.

During the summer of 2011, he was an Infantry Programmer at Headquarters until his retirement from the Canadian Armed Forces in October 2017.

He gave 27 years of service with pride and honor to his country in the Canadian Armed Forces.

In Saint-Léonard, the community where he grew up, he actively participated in the Remembrance Day ceremony as Sergeant-at-Arms from 2004 to 2016.

During his active years, Luc was a volunteer and hard-working volunteer in his community as a youth speaker in Fredericton, and in schools in the northwestern Acadia Lands and Forests region concerning his life experience in the Canadian Armed Forces and recounting the history of the last wars.

Generous of his time and his person on different occasions such as his involvement with the Oromocto Food Bank for many years and many other organizations as a volunteer.

He also leaves in mourning many uncles and aunts whom he respected deeply as well as cousins ​​whom he loved very much.

Dear Luke, rest in peace in the arms of our Heavenly Mother and the eternal Father!

The remains of Luc will be resting at O'Regan's Chapel, 83 St-Antoine Street in Saint-Leonard. Visiting hours will be Friday, September 6th from 7pm to 9pm and Saturday, September 7th from noon to 2 pm.

His funeral will be held Saturday, September 7th at 2:30 pm in the Saint-Léonard Roman Catholic Church with interment at the Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes Cemetery.

Knights of Columbus, Council 2743, of which Luc was a member, will meet for prayers Friday at 7:30 p.m.
